A. M. Toplady

A. M. Toplady was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, in Dublin. He took Anglican orders in 1762, and later became vicar of Broadhembury, in Devon. In 1775 he assumed the pastorate of the French Calvinist chapel in London. He was a powerful hymn writer and penned many songs that are still sung in worship services today, including the well-loved hymn "Rock of Ages".
